Experience the mesmerizing, colorful beauty of Bruce Nauman’s seminal neon sculpture, Life, Death, Love, Hate, Pleasure, Pain, executed in 1983. As we watch, one-by-one, the neon words illuminate around the circle – inviting us to witness the abstraction of language from material. Nauman began experimenting with neon in the mid-1960s, and continued to explore the medium throughout his career, through to today. In total, the artist completed 12 circular neon sculptures – including this one. Of the 12, ten reside in permanent museum collections, and the remaining work remains in the esteemed Froehlich Collection in Stuttgart. Life, Death, Love, Hate, Pleasure, Pain will highlight in Sotheby’s upcoming Contemporary Art Evening Auction in New York this May.
