Photographer and director Mary McCartney presents the London Sales Gallery Tour, featuring highlights from the upcoming Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction and the NOW Evening Auction. Showcasing the very best in Modern & Contemporary Art, the London Sales this March will present a showcase of the major artistic movements of the 20th and 21st centuries, from the innovations of the Impressionists to the ground-breaking works of Contemporary masters and designers. The London Sales will be aligned with Sotheby's (Women) Artists season, which will build on current momentum to celebrate long undervalued female creativity.
The Modern & Contemporary Auction is led by one of the greatest Kandinsky paintings to ever come to market, Murnau mit Kirche II (1910), a recently restituted masterpiece that encapsulates the very beginnings of the artist’s revolutionary abstract language. Another highlight is Edvard Munch’s early four meter wide work Dance on the Beach that was commissioned to be installed on the walls of Max Reinhart’s avant-garde theatre in Berlin.
Another exceptional highlight includes Gerhard Richter’s monumental masterpiece Abstraktes Bild from his celebrated cycle of abstract works and boasts a size and chromatic intensity rarely found even within the grand arc of the artist’s monumental masterworks. Tune in on the 1st of March for the livestream at sothebys.com.
