Executed in 1888, Claude Monet's Le Moulin de Limetz is an exceptionally luminous and prismatic encapsulation of Impressionist technique. One of only two canvases to feature this views of the grain mill at Limetz (the other example held in the collection of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art), the present work was painted in the small village of Limetz on the River Epte, about a mile away from the artist's Giverny home. The painting’s unbroken provenance, from Bertha and Potter Palmer through the family’s descendants, adds extraordinary value to the significance of the painting not only within Monet’s oeuvre but in the canon of art history.
Sotheby’s is proud to present Monet’s Le Moulin de Limetz at the New York Modern Evening Auction on November 13th, 2023.
