First Look: Gerhard Richter’s 4096 Farben

New York | 18 May

Gerhard Richter initiated Color Chart concept in 1966 and, over the following eight years, would go on the create a series of important works which are today held in museum collections all over the world.

The very last work in this celebrated series, '4096 Farben' from 1974—which would also become the template for the artist's magnificent Cologne Cathedral Window in 2007, and was chosen as the cover image of the artist’s catalogue raisonné—is now on view to the public in our London galleries from today through 16 April, before heading to auction for the first time in nearly 20 years at Sotheby's New York in the Contemporary Evening Auction on May 18, presented in partnership with Celine.
