Day In The Life Of A Sotheby's Specialist | Cataloging Roy Lichtenstein Artworks Owned by the Artist

7 OCTOBER | NEW YORK

Sotheby's specialists catalogue Roy Lichtenstein works from the collection of Dorothy and Roy Lichtenstein, spanning five decades of his career.

The work happens in the warehouse, piece by piece. Here, prints can sit beside the drawings and collages that produced them, a pairing specialists almost never get to see. One color separation drawing lays out the entire blue matrix of a screen print. It's a reminder that every color in the classic Roy palette of yellow, blue and red needed its own screen.

Among the highlights are the multiples, a form Lichtenstein returned to throughout his career: a pen shown both before and after its enamel, and a hat that is both a print and a multiple, folded from a laminated offset lithograph.

Reflections on Pop: Works from the Collection of Dorothy and Roy Lichtenstein comes up for auction on 7 October in New York.
