We Turned a Patek Philippe Minute Repeater’s Chime Into Music

NEW YORK | 10 JUNE 2025

T he sound of a Patek Philippe minute repeater is already considered one of the finest mechanical achievements in modern horology — but what if that sound could become music?

Sotheby’s challenged a composer to do just that: create an original piece of music inspired entirely by the melodic chime of a Patek Philippe minute repeater. The result is a striking blend of craftsmanship, art, and acoustic storytelling that bridges centuries of watchmaking with contemporary composition.

These extraordinary timepieces aren’t just rare — they’re profoundly personal. Each one is hand-tuned and individually signed off by Patek Philippe’s president, continuing a legacy of sound and precision passed down for generations. From the discreet elegance of the ref. 2524/1 to the sculptural brilliance of Jean-Pierre Hagmann cases, these watches speak to collectors.

Now, thanks to this musical interpretation, they sing to a whole new audience.

Sotheby’s is proud to present several extraordinary Patek Philippe minute repeaters as part of Luxury Week, presented in partnership with Sotheby’s International Realty, in New York. Important Watches: Take a Minute will be held live on 10 June at 10:30 AM EDT.
