Launch Slideshow

This spring, Sotheby’s will present a timed-based online auction featuring a broad selection of exciting themes captured by the father of stop-motion photography: Eadweard Muybridge. With subjects ranging from lions and dogs to athletes and acrobats, more than 60 lots will be offered, including the present remarkable photograph of a cockatoo in flight, which was reportedly a favourite of Muybridge’s lecture audiences. The entire catalogue can be viewed online from 24 March to 10 April, and the works can be seen in person at Sotheby’s New York from 30 March to 4 April.
