Whether it be on the racetrack, field or boulevard, horses have played a vital role in society throughout the ages. With the 145th Kentucky Derby and the 144th running of the Preakness Stakes this May, Sotheby's pays homage to the elegance and beauty of the equine model with works from our 19th Century European Art auction in New York. Click ahead for a selection of horse-themed art, including paintings by Sir Alfred James Munnings, whose legacy as one of the most important equestrian artists we also celebrate this year, the 50th anniversary of his death.

And if you are looking for private transportation to and from the events, Sentient Jet is the preferred aviation partner of the Kentucky Derby and a longtime supporter of horse racing. This year, they will be hosting their 3rd annual Derby Day Breakfast with Bobby Flay. Sentient Jet is also partnering with Derby Contender Country House and former Derby favorite, Omaha Beach, to raise awareness for our nation’s Veterans through a non-profit organization called Homes For Our Troops.
