T his spring, works from the renowned collection of entrepreneur, philanthropist, and art collector, Jennifer Gilbert will be offered in Sotheby's The Now and Contemporary Evening Auction and Contemporary Day Auction this May, and in Important Design this June. Proceeds will benefit Lumana, the Detroit-based cultural non-profit founded by Gilbert. The works include Joan Mitchell, Loom II, estimated at $5 - 7 million; Kenneth Noland, Circle, estimated $4 - 6 million, the highest estimate placed for a work by the artist at auction; George Rickey, Orenary (Space Churn Theme), estimated $50,000 - 70,000; Harry Bertoia, Untitled, estimated at $80,000 - 120,000.

Lumana will serve as a new hub for artists, designers, and cultural institutions in Detroit’s Little Village, a cultural corridor on the east side of the city. Once open, the foundation’s inaugural program will launch in partnership with Cranbrook Art Museum. Designed by SOLID OBJECTIVES IDENBERG LIU, Lumana’s future home within Stanton Yards, part of a new waterfront in the Little Village. From Noland to Mitchell to Bertoia, the works capture a cross-section of midcentury American innovation. The works that will be up for auction across relevant Sotheby’s sales in May - June.
