For the first time ever, Sotheby’s Wine presents a two-day single-owner sale of both wine and whisky on October 13th and 14th. Built with the utmost passion and commitment for over six decades, this collection is the result of a family’s multi-generational devotion to the greatest in wine and spirits. This immense collection is focused around legendary chateaux and domaines, legendary distillers, and legendary vintages. It is our distinct pleasure to now share these bottles with you as we present LEGENDS | Wine & Whisky | Six Decades of Collecting.
The scope of this collection was made possible by the passions of the family members who amassed it and who instilled in successive generations the spirit of collecting and a love of wine and whisky. This was a collection that was very much enjoyed, with bottles opened to commemorate birthdays, holidays and family gatherings throughout the years. Given this, the preponderance of large format bottles throughout the collection is unsurprising.

The majority of the bottles on offer were purchased on release from reputable retail sources in the US and Europe. Wines were purchased in full case quantities whenever possible and in many instances were kept in original wooden cases and original cartons which remained sealed with winery bands until inspection by Sotheby’s specialists. These cases were stored in a a purpose-built and temperature-controlled facility with the vast majority of bottles brought into the cellar immediately upon acquisition, never moved or seen again until their unboxing for this sale.
