The detail and colors are breathtaking, and the large size of the plates does justice to Rackham's mastery. The plates are the sizes of the original art executed by Rackham and, in some cases, larger. Issued in a format meant for owners to be able to frame the plates for display, it is rare to find it complete.

Her first children's stories were published in London where she lived for a short time, met her husband and had two children, one of whom was a son named Cecco. In 1921 the family moved back to the United States and it was in the U.S. that she wrote her most famous book, The Velveteen Rabbit. Never issued in the UK as a limited edition, Poor Cecco is a notorious rarity in the Rackham world and this is a magnificent copy of the book.

A Christmas Carol

An Arthur Rackham signed and illustrated limited edition of Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen.

Henrik Ibsen (Norwegian).

Illustrated by Arthur Rackham (English).

London: Harrap, (1936).

256 pages.

Illustrated by Rackham with 12 color plates, plus numerous fanciful black-and-white images.

Signed by Rackham on the limitation page.

Bound in the original full gilt-stamped vellum, top edge gilt, other edges uncut, pictorial endpapers.

Signed limited edition, one of only 460 copies signed by Rackham, of this popular play based on a Norwegian fairy tale — accompanied by the original drawing that appears on page 78 of the text. Rackham had a special talent for creating fantastical creatures like fairies and goblins, making Peer Gynt an excellent choice for his interpretations. Laid into this copy is a gorgeous original pen-and-ink drawing featuring a bevy of weird and wonderful goblins in motion. The drawing is actually larger than the printed version. Already a scarce Rackham deluxe edition, it is especially desirable with the drawing.

Richly colored and with much detail.
