A <a href="https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/luxury/books-&amp;-manuscripts/book/first-edition" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">first edition</a> of this magnificent ABC and Newbery Honor book, an unusually beautiful copy.<ul><li>Wanda Gág (American).</li><li>New York:&nbsp;Coward McCann,&nbsp;1933.</li><li>Original pictorial boards, in original color pictorial dust jacket.</li></ul> The lithographs on every page that are nothing less than works of art, with a splash of red for letters and contrast (plus musical endpapers). The colophon reads: "The illustrations in this book are original lithographs drawn by Wanda Gág. Printed in lithography... on paper made especially for this edition." Probably due to its size, not many collectible copies of this title have survived over the years, particularly in such condition.

This illustration appears on page 39 of the first edition, published by Coward McCann in 1938. Snow White has fallen asleep after eating the poisoned apple and lies under glass cover in the woods. Prince Charming is approaching on the left, a dwarf sleeps in a tree to the right, and forest creatures watch in anticipation. A wonderful image; original art by Gág is quite rare.
