Churchill, Winston La Deuxième Guerre mondiale. Paris, Plon, [1948-1952]. 10 volumes in-8 (218 x 138 mm). Demi-chagrin à coins bordeaux, entre-nerfs mosaïqué de veau de différentes teintes à l'effigie de Churchill (volume I) ou du "V" de la Victoire (sur les autres volumes), filets dorés, tête dorée, couverture et dos (F. Fanzini, Marseille). Exemplaire du résistant et préfet Jean Baylot. Dans une étonnante reliure à l'effigie de Churchill. Édition originale française. Exemplaire du service de presse. Envoi autographe signé, à l'encre sur une garde du premier volume : "To M. le Préfet Jean Baylot from Winston Churchill 1945". Jean Baylot (1897-1976), engagé volontaire pendant la Première guerre mondiale, secrétaire de la Fédération postale CGT, entre en résistance durant la Seconde guerre mondiale. En 1944, il est nommé préfet et secrétaire général chargé du ravitaillement. Il est limogé de son poste de préfet des Bouches-du-Rhône en 1954 par François Mitterrand, alors ministre de l'Intérieur, ayant appris que des tracts communistes appelant à une manifestation avaient été imprimés par la préfecture de police. Les deux derniers volumes n'étant pas encore parus au moment où Churchill fit ce cadeau à Jean Baylot (ils sont annoncés comme "A paraître prochainement" dans la liste des parutions du dernier volume), ils ne font pas partie de cette série. On joint cependant ces deux volumes publiés ultérieurement (ici dans une autre édition, Cercle du Bibliophile, sans date, vers 1980, reliure d'éditeur).
