(98.4 x 63 cm) This rare advance poster was created by Wallen Green Direct Marketing for sale to members of the Back to the Future fan club, and those who ordered it through a form that was in the VHS video tape of the first film. There was only one print run, which sold out immediately. Considering this piece was sold to the public, one would think that many of these would have surfaced. However, it is exceptionally rare, with only a handful surfacing over the last ten years. This sequel was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Bob Gale, and is the second film in the popular Back to the Future trilogy. Like the first film, this sequel also stars Michael J. Twenty year-old Roy Campanella was still unknown outside of the Negro Leagues when he accepted this 1941 contract with Caguas of the Puerto Rican League. Like many Negro League players, he played winter baseball in Latin America to hone his skills in the off-season. The $25-a-week salary that this contract allowed Campy is a testament to his dedication. By the time he was 24 in the mid 1940’s, Campy was a 10-year veteran, making $5,000 a year as one of the highest-paid players in the Negro Leagues. Campanella would eventually become a three-time Major League Most Valuable Player as the Brooklyn Dodgers' catcher, but this remarkable document harkens back to when the future Hall of Famer was preparing in earnest to get his shot. Overall excellent condition. Campy’s black ink signature rates a 10/10. LOAs from JSA and PSA/DNA.

(102.8 x 68.6 cm) Mr. Sohal met Juliette Binoche at the Curzon Cinema, London, when she was promoting the film Certified Copy. It is rare for anyone to have an original poster signed, as the majority of signatures are on pieces of paper, photographs and video/dvd sleeves. It is unusual to have the film's poster with you when you try to obtain signatures. This French drama was directed and co-written by Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski. It was the first of three films in the Three Colours trilogy. Each film was based on the French Revolution ideals - liberty, equality and fraternity. The cast includes Juliette Binoche, Zbigniew Zamachowski and Julie Delpy. The film tells the story of Julie (Juliette Binoche), whose husband and child tragically died in a car accident, as she tries to find a way to continue her life. Without the ties of family Julie isolates herself to numb the pain of her loss. She can't completely free herself from all human connections, as those who care about her and need her, together with the music that surrounds her, bring her back to the present and a life with a future.

First editions of all three volumes of the greatest work of modern fantasy. While serving in the trenches in WWI, Tolkien conceived of these tales set in a "secondary World," for consolation and pleasure; they developed over a period of forty years into an epic narrative. "The Lord of the Rings" has been read as an allegory for multiple conflicts: post-World War I and the rise of Hitler; Christian myth; even the environment, with the Dead Marshes reflecting Tolkien's despair over the desolation wreaked by military technology. In his essay "On Fairy-Stories," Tolkien spells out his purpose in writing about an imaginary world: "The peculiar quality of the 'joy' in successful Fantasy can thus be explained as a sudden glimpse of the underlying reality or truth. It is not only a 'consolation' for sorrow of this world, but a satisfaction, and an answer to that question, 'Is it true?' THE EXECUTION OF DEMETRIUS NICATOR, KING OF SYRIA, a miniature cut from a copy of Laurent de Premierfait, Des cas des nobles hommes et femmes malheureux, in French (a translation of Boccaccio’s De casibus virorum illustrium), illuminated manuscript on vellum [France (Troyes?), 15th century (c. 1470)] a cutting, c. 105 × 75mm, the reverse ruled in red ink and with part of 18 lines of text written in French in a fine lettre bâtarde script, comprising part of the preceding chapter (‘concubine dudit roy Actalus … gloire en beaux fais de bata[ille]’), the miniature depicting a king wearing a blindfold and crown, kneeling next to the water’s edge, a small ship nearby, an executioner about to behead the king, wearing white clothes and hat and with his back turned towards the viewer, the scabbard partly in the water, watched by a line of men, including a prince wearing a coronet and a monk in a habit, with a castle or city beyond a grassy mound, all within by a narrow gold framing line; very slight pigment losses, e.g. at the executioner’s collar, but generally in very fine condition; in giltwood frame. PROVENANCE The parent volume apparently had a half-page miniature at the beginning of each of the nine books and a column-wide miniature at the beginning of each chapter, so it would have had about 175 miniatures in all, and can therefore only have been commissioned by a patron of exceptional wealth, either a member of the upper aristocracy or of the royal family; two of the most lavishly illuminated copies were made for Jean, Duke of Berry, and his brother John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy.The volume was certainly cut up by 1862, because a miniature was in the collection of Heinrich Wilhelm Campe, Leipzig art collector, educator, and writer, who died in that year; another was owned by William Horatio Crawford, of Lakelands, who died in 1888, and four were acquired by the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, also in 1888.Sold in our rooms, 29 November 1990, lot 37 (ill.); bought by:The Boehlen Collection, Bern, MS 1402. ILLUMINATION The style of illumination of the many cuttings from this volume has usually been compared to that of the Coëtivy Master (Colin d’Amiens?), one of the leading illuminators active in Paris c. 1450–80, but more recently Mara Hofmann has suggested (in the catalogue of a sale in our rooms, 8 July 2014, lot 19) that it should instead be attributed to Troyes, where a pupil of the Coëtivy Master, the Master of the Glazier Hours, worked at least temporarily, when he illuminated a lectionary for the use of the Bishop of Troyes. This is a rare secular subject. It comes from Book V, chapter 17, in which Demetrius (d. 125 BCE), the unpopular king of Syria, escaped by ship after losing a battle at Damascus but was later caught and executed near Tyre. The film is set in a future world, destroyed by disease. A convict, James Cole (Bruce Willis) agrees in exchange for his freedom to travel back in time to acquire information about the virus that wiped out most of mankind. This poster was signed by Terry Gilliam at the BFI, London, during the screening of Time Bandits. It is rare for anyone to have an original film poster signed, as the majority of signatures are on pieces of paper, photographs and video/dvd sleeves. DICKENS, CHARLES Autograph letter signed, to Sir Roderick Murchison WITH HIS PASSIONATE SUPPORT FOR ANOTHER POLAR EXPEDITION TO DISCOVER THE TRUE FATE OF SIR JOHN FRANKLIN, Murchison's efforts being "another proof ... of your manly championship on all occasions, of the claims of humanity and the dignity of science", with a withering dismissal of the British government and a promise of his "readiness to call attention to the subject" in a future issue of Household Words, blue ink, 2 pages, 8vo, text on rectos only, Tavistock House, 4 March 1857 "...I have no belief in the justice or generosity of an English ministry. I have no belief in their caring about anything but themselves and their miserable party strife. I have no belief in their having the least interest in Franklin, or in anything Polar except the polling at corrupt elections..." The fate of Sir John Franklin had fascinated Dickens and the wider British public since his disappearance in 1847, but had erupted back into public consciousness in 1854 when John Rae's published a report providing evidence of cannibalism. Dickens followed public opinion in dismissing these claims in 'The Lost Arctic Voyagers' (Household Words, December 1854), and now a new expedition was in preparation to discover the truth. The McClintock Artic expedition set forth in July 1857 and went on to discover the last written communications of the expedition.
