Incredible to remember that this had only a 12-day maceration, short for Petrus. Rich and opulently-textured on the palate. Defies its age. Meaty, sweet and gummy. Petrus 2005 Pomerol Bin-soiled label, Mexico import tag, bottle signed by Christian Moueix This is a great wine. It has it all, fruit, tannin and fresh acidity - in 2005, the acidity went up markedly during the fermentation. Lightly coffee-ish, with cloves, redcurrants and glycerol. Petrus 1971 Pomerol u. vts, slightly scuffed and soiled label, slightly scuffed and corroded capsule On our wedding anniversary in 2012, a bouquet of all the great Clarets rolled into one. Total nostalgia. Nose of great black cherries bounding out of the glass. Dark chocolate, leather, liquorice, orange peel and aromatics. Utterly hedonistic. Creamy texture, prunes, black olives and coffee beans. Petrus is Bordeaux's most individual wine and this is one of the greatest vintages they have ever made. I would never get tired of this wine - try me! And on Valentine's Day 2013, my husband produced it again. Sumptuous, voluptuous, sweet and ripe. Then add plums and cloves to the mix - one of the greatest wines ever made. Petrus 1998 Pomerol Beautiful, thick, rich, dense, Rubens-like colour. Amazing complexity on the nose - mega-dimensional. Vanillin, cinnamon, intoxicating oriental spices nose. With time, mocha creeps in. This has the absolute fascination of Petrus. Formidable body and fruit on the palate, with enormous depth of flavour, but still elegant. Incredible dark chocolate and black fruit taste. It just never goes away. For me, the greatest and one of the wines of my life. Petrus 1947 Pomerol 1 bt - u. t/hs, slightly bin-soiled label, corroded capsule, retail sticker adhered to label, Mexico import tag adhered to capsule, unknown bottler, believed Belgian due to brown glass, 1 bt - u. t/ hs, damp-stained, marked and nicked label, Vandermeulen labeling, slightly corroded capsule, slight signs of old seepage, Mexico import tag adhered to label In 2009, I had this again, from our own cellar and for my birthday. It had spent all its life in two very cold cellars and so it had a great level and a film-like deposit on the side of the bottle. Completely deep, dark colour to the rim. The most intoxicating, chocolate liqueur nose, all opulence and luscious blackberries turning to black cherries. An unbelievable sweet candied violets taste. No sign of any physical decline, or volatility. Glorious flavours of a compote of plums. We decanted it half an hour before drinking and, after 40 minutes in the glass, it had a bouquet of sandalwood. What tremendous impact - the most decisive Claret ever. I felt I had never tasted a more exciting wine than this bottle - Mouton 1945 is the 'classic', but this is the most deliriously fantastic. Serena Sutcliffe, MW WA 100 2 bts (2 cn)

So silky and such finesse. So sweet at the end. It sometimes has a bouquet of wild boar (the cooked version!), a glorious, gamey taste and a lovely aniseed finish. In 2012, a superlative "exotic" nose. Superb, irony centre. Utterly mouth coating with that great Petrus heart to it. Sweetness and mineral dimension. True long finish. In a class of its own. The harvest was prolonged, picking in order of the vine age in the parcels. There is great power and complexity, plus high alcohol, which you do not 'see'. A glorious, distinguished nose, followed by so much volume. Glycerol gumminess, 'irony' and sheer opulence over the structure. Coffee notes and sumptuous textures, with everything rolling round the mouth. This is a grand grand vin - make no mistake here. Petrus 1982 Pomerol u. 1bn, labels slightly scuffed and wrinkled, 5 slightly nicked, scuffed capsules Mature colour. A great nose of prunes, spices, huge character and "presence". Liquorice, with sweet, gummy definition. Some sweet aniseed. A lovely sweet "leather" taste. Now has a pruney finish, with sweet, soft cinnamon at the end. Really mocha as it lingers on the palate. Superb, full, rich, ultra-dimensional taste. Rolls round the mouth. Unbeatable and stunning, with great meaty character. Leave it in the glass and it opens out gloriously.
