Originally released in 2001 as a Japan-exclusive, the <a href="https://www.sothebys.com/en/search?query=Nike+Air+Force+1&amp;pfilters.dateRange=upcoming" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Nike Air Force 1</a> “Linen” has become one of the most sought-after Air Force 1s in existence. In 2016, for the opening of Kith’s Miami flagship during Art Basel, Nike revived this ultra-rare model as a 1-to-1 replica of the original, featuring a narrowed silhouette, premium leather, and a neoprene liner. The palette, inspired by the natural hues of South Beach, brought a distinct local flavor to the classic design, offered exclusively in-store at Kith Miami. To celebrate the release and the store opening, Kith and Nike collaborated with graffiti legend Futura, who created a one-of-a-kind installation in the flagship’s window. The artist’s signature fine lines and abstract vision highlighted the model’s legacy and the cultural significance of the Air Force 1. Futura also designed special acrylic box packaging, decorated with his atom tag, for a limited number of 50 units, gifted to close friends and family of Kith. Offered in this lot is a 2016 Nike Air Force 1 Linen, accompanied by a signed acrylic box by Futura. Semaphore Gallery was a contemporary art gallery founded by Barry Blinderman and A. James Shapiro in 1980 in New York City, located at 462 West Broadway in SoHo. In 1984, Semaphore East was also established on the corner of 10th and Avenue B in the East Village, Manhattan. Semaphore East closed in 1986, and Semaphore Soho moved to 136 Greene Street, across from Leo Castelli. The gallery closed in the summer of 1987, when Blinderman accepted the position of Director at University Galleries of Illinois State University.Semaphore Gallery championed the work of key figures such as, Martin Wong, Duncan Hannah, Robert Colescott, Raymond Pettibon, Alexander Kosolapov, Futura 2000, Jane Dickson, Tseng Kwong Chi, among others. Semaphore East, directed by Annie Herron, hosted one-person exhibitions for Lady Pink, Lori Taschler, Keith Haring, Robert Colescott, and other notable figures.
