Mazis Chambertin 1988 Domaine Maume Côte de Nuits, Grand Cru u. 1x3cm, 1 label very slightly soiled, 1 capsule damaged on top 12 bts (oc) Provenance: The collection, acquired from reputable UK wine merchants, was started well over 40 years ago and since original purchase has only been moved once - for the purposes of this sale. The Doctor established deep, personal contacts with the great and the good in the UK wine trade at that time, and it was from them that he acquired his extensive knowledge of Fine Wine. All the original invoices have been kept on record, together with initial offers, newsletters etc. The sale opens with a swathe of Armand Rousseau and Georges Roumier, which is followed in alphabetical order by grower by the likes of Marquis d'Angerville, Ghislaine Barthod, Jean Grivot, Anne Gros, Henri and Georges Jayer and Emmanuel Rouget. White Burgundy is represented by Chablis from Dauvissat in profusion, and choice gems from Lafon and Leflaive. Underpinning all this are treasures from the Rhône, Bordeaux and Champagne, including masses of Krug and Pol Roger. The majority of this collection has benefitted from high-quality professional storage at London City Bond. The last 60 or so lots, stored in our Greenford warehouse, were removed from the Doctor's own cellars, naturally cool and damp, and located under an imposing traditional English country house. Mazis Chambertin 1983 Domaine Maume Côte de Nuits, Grand Cru u. 1x3.5cm, 2 labels detached, 2 damaged, 1 wrinkled at corner, 1 capsule showing signs of old seepage 12 bts (cn) Provenance: The collection was started well over 40 years ago, before the internet, and was acquired from reputable UK wine merchants, and has never been moved since original purchase. The Doctor, through his contacts in the Wine Trade, developed an unerring eye for the best they had. All the original invoices have been kept on record, together with initial offers, newsletters etc. The collection bestrides the best of Rhône and Burgundy, and offers a wealth of lots from such as Beaucastel, Chave, Jaboulet, Vieux Télégraphe and the very sought-after Gentaz-Dervieux, an estate now lost to time. Further North, in Burgundy, we have important offerings from Engel, Anne Gros, Lafon, both Georges and Christophe Roumier, Armand Rousseau, the list goes on. Underpinning this are selections from Bordeaux, featuring all the 1st Growths, plus Super Seconds and other Classed Growths, together with rare German lots, notably Dr Loosen, Von Schubert and J.J. Prum. The collection has been stored, since original purchase, in the naturally cool and damp series of cellars under a beautiful traditional English country house. Doctor S bought the house in part for these four large cellars, in order to store his wine collection. These chambers are vibration-free, brick-floored, with a constant temperature and are notably damp. For the long-term storage of fine and rare wines, they were perfect, evident by the generally excellent levels in these mature bottles. The condition and the colour of the wine is remarkable.
