CATALOGUE NOTE
By the later 1790s, a probable date of this fine portrait, Beechey was the principal rival to John Hoppner. Mrs Simeon, née Harriet Parry, was the daughter of Thomas Parry, a director of the East India Company between 1785-1816; her nephew was Thomas Gambier Parry, the nineteenth-century collector of early Italian paintings, the bulk of whose collection is now at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London.
