About the Museum
Reborn in 2005 with a new, state-of-the-art contemporary facility, the De Young magically weaves together the experience of art, architecture and the incredible natural landscape of Golden Gate Park. Originally launched on this site for the International Exposition of 1894 with an eclectic mix of exotic curiosities, it grew to become among the nation’s greatest venues for American art both past and present, international textile arts and costumes, as well as art of the Americas, Oceania and Africa. The showcasing of international contemporary works, which began in 1988, always adds excitement.
