Global Participation Propels Contemporary Art Evening to 242.2 Million

Sotheby’s New York Contemporary Art Evening auction saw spirited bidding with participation from 34 countries, achieving a total of $242,194,000. Led by Cy Twombly’s rhapsody in blue loops from 1968 Untitled (New York City) and Francis Bacon’s arresting Two Studies for a Self-Portrait from 1970, the sale saw 95.4% of all lots sold – the highest sell-through rate in over six years.
