In Its Own Light: Property from the Collection of Ed Cohen & Victoria Shaw

By Sotheby's

S otheby’s is thrilled to present "In Its Own Light: Property from the Collection of Ed Cohen & Victoria Shaw" as a single-owner sale to be offered alongside the 2 March Contemporary Curated auction at 10:00 AM in New York. "In Its Own Light" is distinguished by the enigmatic narrative that emerges from this richly textured assemblage of artworks, which includes examples by Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer, Brice Marden, John Currin and Howard Hodgkin. Engaged in a dialogue between man and myth, the currents that run throughout this group of works draw from the study of philosophy, history and time. Representing varied forms of expression – including gestural abstraction, Minimalism, portraiture and landscape painting – the collection underscores the role of the artist as shaman. The works embody a delicate balance between humanist philosophies and spiritual energy.
