About the Museum
The Women’s Museum at Bait al Banat is a national archive and documentation center that is dedicated to the women of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). As a contemporary cultural center, the Women’s Museum explores the activities of Emirati women in the arts, academia, business, culture, politics, and in everyday life.
The first floor gallery space is dedicated to work by female artists from across the Emirates. The rotating exhibitions display retrospectives of established artists, work by young and emerging artists, and inter-generational group shows. The second gallery space is dedicated to regional and international collaborations with galleries, museums, and artists from around the world. There is also a special hall that presents the poetic heritage of the renowned poet Ousha Bint Khalifa. The second floor is home to the Women’s Studies Centre, a research center with an archive of documents for Women’s Studies in the UAE and the rest of the Arab world. The museum is housed in Bait Al Banat (which translates to ‘The Girls House’), a building of historical importance dating from the 1950s.Read Less
