About the Museum
A visit to the Appaloosa Museum is designed to provide a self-guided exploration of exhibits that include a theater; a hands-on Kid’s Area; a library and archive featuring books, magazines, and videos; and the Apalousey Trading Post gift shop. Exhibit themes range from the early evidence of spotted horses in art and literature, to the relationship between the Appaloosa and the Nez Perce, to the highlights of the modern Appaloosa Horse Club. The Appaloosa Museum welcomes school groups, home-schoolers, and youth groups such as 4H and scouts. The standard program lasts around one hour and includes a short lecture followed by an exploration of the museum in small groups where students answer questions that help them delve into the past, present and future of the Appaloosa horse. Part of the program is a chance to sit on several types of saddles including a sidesaddle.
