About the Museum
Schokoladenmuseum (the Chocolate Museum) is located in the Rheinau harbor, near the Cologne Cathedral. The museum offers tours of nine exhibition areas that take visitors through 5,000 years of the culture and history of chocolate, from the ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures through the Baroque age and industrialization into contemporary times. Visitors learn about how cocoa is harvested and processed. The museum produces its own chocolate and its chocolate fountain, constantly replenished with fresh Lindt chocolate, is a highlight. Glass-sided machines allow visitors to follow each step of the manufacturing process. The second floor of the museum houses a chocolate workshop, where visitors can create their own unique chocolate bar from three types of chocolate and 40 different ingredients.
