Laser focused on diverse current work

The Sarasota Art Museum is a non-collecting institution dedicated to temporary exhibitions, which opened in 2019. Anchoring the Ringling College Museum Campus, it has 15,000 square feet of gallery space, an auditorium for educational events, performance and film, a sculpture courtyard and extensive grounds. The museum is located in the historic Sarasota High School building, a 1926 structure designed by acclaimed architect M. Leo Elliott, and its 1960 extension by Paul Rudolph — a major figure in the Sarasota School of Architecture. The museum presents a range of exhibitions spotlighting living makers, from more established names including Vik Muniz and Félix González-Torres to emerging artists. Its Inside Out program makes use of the extensive grounds, windows and other spaces beyond the gallery to feature dynamic, often site-specific works.
