Stately memorial to the Dutch genius

The Rembrandt House Museum occupies the historic home where Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn lived and worked between 1639 and 1658. The 17th-century interior has been meticulously restored, thanks in part to his detailed bankruptcy inventories, providing visitors with an immersive experience of how the Dutch master lived, taught and created throughout his long artistic career. Recreated highlights include the artist’s studio, bedroom and cabinet of curiosities room. The collection features a selection of paintings and drawings, plus a world-class assemblage of nearly all his etchings, in addition to artworks by his contemporaries, pupils and modern and contemporary artists who looked to the master for inspiration. In 2023, the museum reopened after a four-year-long renovation, which added a third-more exhibition space, including a screening room and etching workshop, and inaugurated an artist residency program that echoes the building’s history as a creative hub.
