Scotland’s past and global treasures

One of the UK’s most popular museums outside London, this institution officially opened in its current form in 2006, following the merging of the Museum of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Museum. The vast collection brings together the history of Scotland with natural treasures from across the world, diverse indigenous artworks, scientific equipment and exquisite art, design and fashion. Highlights include the medieval Lewis chess pieces, a 39-foot-long T. rex skeleton cast, garments by Vivienne Westwood and Jean Muir and a roof terrace offering views of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat.
