Bauhaus and Photography: Neues Sehen in Contemporary Art

12 April–25 August 2019

Exhibition Overview

T. Lux Feininger, Bauhausbühne Dessau: Lichtspiel von Oskar Schlemmer, 1927.

To mark the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus, this exhibition establishes a dialogue between avant-garde photography from around 1930 and contemporary art.

The historical reference point is provided by a reconstruction of László Moholy-Nagy’s 1929 presentation on the history of photography, which was conceived for the Deutscher Werkbund’s international Film and Photo exhibition, which ended in Berlin with a showcase of the artist’s own works. In addition, around 200 works by artists such as Florence Henri, Erich Consemüller, Thomas Ruff, Dominique Teufen, Vivianne Sassen, Kris Scholz, Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs, Antje Hanebeck and Douglas Gordon will be on display.
