Cultural intersections from the 18th century to today

The Museum Europäischer Kulturen (MEK) (Museum of European Cultures) presents European everyday culture and popular art from the 18th century until today. As the largest institution of its kind, MEK seeks a greater understanding of a shared and diverse European history and culture, working across borders and groups. The collection is primarily on display in the permanent exhibition, “Cultural Contacts: Living in Europe,” in a public study collection known as the Contemporary Showcase, as well as in rotating exhibitions. Its holdings are strong in textiles, popular graphics and photographs, rituals and forms of religiosity and childhood and youth culture, and it is unique for objects from ethnic minorities in Europe, such as the Sami and the Crimean Tatars.
