About the Museum
The Museum der Kulturen Basel is the largest anthropological museum in Switzerland. Its collection, with roughly 300,000 artefacts from Africa, the Americas, Asia and Oceania, includes many masterpieces to match its world-renowned textile collection.
After comprehensive renovation work, that included an addition by star architects Herzog and de Meuron, the Museum der Kulturen Basel reopened to the public in 2011. Since that time, the museum’s main focus has been on contemporary issues, both in its temporary and permanent exhibitions, which shed light on the links and interrelations between different life worlds at different times. With its stunning exhibitions, powerful educational programmes, and specific events the Museum invites audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
