Fayga Ostrower: Formations on the Inside Out

20 March–6 June 2021

Exhibition Overview

Jointly curated by MAM’s curatorial team, composed of Beatriz Lemos, Keyna Eleison and Pablo Lafuente, and the Education and Participation team, with Daniel Bruno, Gilson Plano and Shion Lucas

The exhibition brings a panorama of Fayga Ostrower’s work (Lodz, Poland, 1920 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 2001), a printmaker, educator and art theorist. With approximately 80 works, including fabrics, jewelry, documents and books, the exhibition offers a detailed study of informal abstraction in Brazilian art and the use of colour in printmaking. The exhibition also presents her thoughts on art and her education practice, developed during the time she taught at MAM Rio, from 1953 to 1969.
