About the Museum

Interior view of the MAO in Turin.

Turin’s Museo d’Arte Orientale (Museum of Oriental Art, also known as MAO), opened in 2008, hosts one of Italy’s most important collections of Asian art. Located in the 17th century Palazzo Mazzonis, MAO combines the Asian collection of the Turin City Museum of Ancient Art and the Turin City Hall. MAO's collection includes over 2200 works of art, which are thematically divided by Chinese, Japanese, South Asian, Himalayan, and Islamic nations. The museum’s courtyard features two glass-enclosed Japanese rock gardens.
