About the Museum

Interior view of the Musée Zoologique in Strasbourg.

Strasbourg’s Musée Zoologique (Zoological Museum) is a natural history museum located on the campus of the University of Strasbourg that displays the city’s zoological collections. The museum traces its origins to 1802, when the city of Strasbourg purchased the collections of naturalist Johann Hermann. Visitors can explore endangered environments in Alsace, including the Higher Vosges Mountains, the Rhine forest, and the Ried; visit Johann Hermann’s 18th century study, and view thousands of specimens of birds, marine mammals, invertebrates, and insects from the Alsace region and around the globe.
