About the Museum
Ranging from antiquities to contemporary art, the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon spans many centuries and styles. Highlights include superlative examples of Egyptian sarcophagi and statuary, elegant Greek and Etruscan vases and a vast collection of artefacts from the ancient civilisations of Mesopotamia, Iran, Persia and Syria. The museum also covers 14 centuries of decorative arts with works in ivory, silver and gold, enamel and glass as well as a number of galleries dedicated to porcelain. From the modern period, one can find sculpture by Rodin and paintings by French masters such as Braque, Manet, Renoir and Degas alongside works by van Gogh and Chagall.
