Musée de l'Oeuvre Notre-Dame

The Musée de l’Oeuvre Notre Dame is recognized as one of the finest collections of medieval works in France. Its collections highlight Upper Rhenish fine arts and decorative arts from the early Middle Ages through the late 17^th century and include works by regional masters, including Niclas Gerhaert van Leyden, Nikolaus Hagenauer, and Sebastian Stoskopff, as well as sculptures, stained glass windows, altars, tapestries, and other items from Alsatian churches, cloisters, and chapels.

The Musée de l’Oeuvre Notre Dame was formed from the merger of several collections of early modern Rhenish art and first opened in 1931. It is housed in several buildings next to the Strasbourg cathedral that date from the medieval period. 12^th through 14^th century Jewish tombstones, remnants of a medieval cemetery, are preserved in the Museum’s courtyard.
