About the Museum

Exterior view of the Weather Discovery Center.

The Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center is an interactive, family-friendly science museum that allows visitors to explore climate and weather science near the “Home of the World’s Worst Weather.” At the Weather Discovery Center, located in downtown North Conway, visitors can view a life-size, touchable tornado; learn how air currents form, deliver a weather forecast on the green screen, and, through the "Live from the Rockpile" program, video chat with meteorologists stationed at the Mount Washington Observatory. The Center’s lower level houses the Gladys Brooks Memorial Library, which features a large collection of artifacts, books, maps, prints, and photographs related to the White Mountains, the Artic, and the Antarctic. The Library is open by appointment.
