Popular showpiece for Swiss-Italian art

Founded in 2015 following the merger between the Museo Cantonale d’Arte and the Lugano Museo d’Arte, the Museo d’Arte della Svizzera Italiana (MASI) has become one of the top art museums in Switzerland. With more than 14,000 artworks, the rich collection of Swiss Italian art ranges from the 15th century to the present, with a primary focus on the 19th and 20th centuries. Noted artists include Edoardo Berta, Hermann Scherer, Ferdinand Hodler, Giovanni Giacometti and Camille Pissarro, who are among those featured in rotated presentations of the collection and monographic or thematic exhibitions, with past shows highlighting Paul Klee, Marcel Broodthaers, Albert Oehlen and Nicolas Party, among other. MASI is also one of the 12 art museums selected by the Swiss tourism board to represent the country’s cultural image.
