About the Museum

The Jorge Vargas Museum houses the collection of art, stamps and coins, library, personal papers and memorabilia of Jorge Vargas. Vargas was the first Executive Secretary of the Phillipines and served during the Commonwealth period. The objects were donated to his Alma Mater, the University of the Philippines in 1978. In 1983 the university laid the cornerstone for the building that would house the collection, and the building was formally inaugurated in 1987.

Among the art in the permanent collection are paintings by Juan Luna, Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, Victorio Edaded and Fernando Amorsolo. The museum hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, book launches and poetry readings.
