Dubai’s waterfront contemporary art space
Jameel Arts Centre in Dubai is dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art and engaging with local communities and artists through education, research and commissions. The center, opened in 2018, includes 1,000 square meters of galleries as well as a research center and library, an events space and an outdoor sculpture area. It draws from its own collection of art for its regular program of temporary solo and thematic exhibitions, shown alongside new commissions and loans. The low-lying white building, set on the Jaddaf Waterfront, was designed by the UK-based firm Serie Architects and was inspired by traditional Arab homes linked by courtyards. Jameel Arts Centre is run by Art Jameel, an independent organization funded by the Jameel family philanthropies that fosters and promotes contemporary art, cultural heritage protection and creative entrepreneurship across the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and beyond.
