Hungarian National Museum

Founded in 1802, the Hungarian National Museum is the national museum for the history, art and archaeology of Hungary. Housed in a Neoclassical building that was built in 1837-47, the museum was designed by architect Mihály Pollack. The museum has seven permanent displays that explore the general history of Hungary through ancient archaeological artifacts from 804 AD to objects and art from modern and contemporary times. The museum houses many treasures of Hungarian history and culture, including the coronation cloak used by Hungarian Kings, a sculpture of a golden deer from the sixth century BC and a funerary crown from the 13th century, among many others. The museum is also home to a garden, shop, and café.
