About the Museum

The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center is the best place to learn about the sacrifices made during the Battle of Gettysburg, the causes and consequences of the American Civil War, and the lessons of citizenship, leadership, conflict and conciliation in American democracy that remain timeless and relevant to our lives today. At the museum and visitor center, you can listen to Abraham Lincoln’s words in the film, A New Birth of Freedom, learn about soldier and civilian life in the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War which houses 12 galleries of artifacts and interactive exhibits, and experience the Cyclorama painting, an immersive 377-foot painting in the round. The museum and visitor center is a National Park Service site, and is managed and operated by the Gettysburg Foundation.
