About the Museum

The Georgia Museum of Art is both a university museum at the University of Georgia and, since 1982, the official state museum of art. Located on the East Campus of UGA, in the Performing and Visual Arts Complex, it opened in 1948. Its permanent collection consists of American paintings, primarily 19th and 20th century; American, European and Asian works on paper; the Samuel H. Kress Study Collection of Italian Renaissance paintings; and growing collections of southern decorative arts and Asian art. Some artists included in this collection are Pierre Renoir, Auguste Rodin, and Roy Lichtenstein.
