About the Museum

Interior view of the Estonian Open Air Museum in Tallinn.

Located outside of Talinn, the Estonian Open Air Museum recreates eighteenth-century rural farming and fishing villages. The museum grounds feature 74 historical buildings, including a church, inn, schoolhouse, mills, fire station, farmyards, and net sheds transplanted from different regions of Estonia. Historical interpreters dressed in period costume demonstrate how rural Estonians lived and worked. The Open Air Museum offers a variety of seasonal activities for visitors of all ages, including hay rides, smithing, breadmaking, and handicrafts; its expansive grounds double as a seaside park. A village tavern, the Kolu Inn, serves traditional foods such as pea soup.
