Dovecot Studios

A working fine art tapestry studio

Dovecot is a world-renowned craft workshop in the center of Edinburgh. Since its founding in 1912, it has been a site for collaboration with some of the most celebrated artists of the time. It was established by the 4th Marquess of Bute, who brought two master weavers to Scotland from the Morris & Co. workshop — the pioneering craft center founded by William Morris. The Marquess commissioned tapestries for his home, and the studio began working for leading artists, designers and architects. Dovecot weavers are known for their collaborations with figures including David Hockney, Eduardo Paolozzi, Louise Bourgeois and Chris Ofili, and still undertake public and private commissions of tapestry and hand-crafted rugs. The studio also holds a selection of works for sale and stages an innovative exhibition and events program bringing art and tapestry to a wide audience.
