Chrysler Museum of Art

A Virginia institution with a heart of glass

The Chrysler Museum of Art is one of America’s most distinguished mid-sized art museums. It has a nationally-recognized collection of more than 30,000 objects, including ancient artifacts, contemporary works and one of the great glass collections in America spanning over 3,000 years. The core of the Chrysler’s collection came from Walter P. Chrysler, Jr., the son of the famous automobile magnate and an avid art collector who donated thousands of objects from his private collection to the museum. In addition, the Chrysler Museum of Art administers the Jean Outland Chrysler Library and a historic house in downtown Norfolk: the Moses Myers House. The house was built in 1792 and draws an exceptionally accurate picture of the life of this prosperous Jewish merchant and his family.
