About the Museum

Founded in 1988, the Bahrain National Museum (also referred to as the National Museum of Bahrain) is the largest and one of the oldest public museums in Bahrain. The museum's rich collection of ancient archaeological artifacts and natural history specimens covers nearly 5,000 years of the history of Bahrain.

Exhibitions focus on the ancient civilization of Dilmun and the culture and lifestyle of Bahrain's pre-industrial past. Notable collections include the Durand Stone, a basalt sculpture from the Babylonian era, as well Quranic manuscripts and historic documents. The museum also collects work by Bahraini contemporary artists. The museum aims to enhance the understanding and knowledge of Bahrain's history as well as promote global culture within the local community.
