About the Museum

The Autry Museum of the American West is dedicated to exploring an inclusive history of the American West, bringing together the stories of all peoples of the region, connecting the past with the present to inspire our shared future. Founded in 1988, the museum presents a wide range of exhibitions and public programs, including lectures, film, theater, festivals, family events, music and performances, research and educational outreach. The museum has two sites and attracts about 150,000 visitors annually.

The Autry promotes research and educational activities, encourages the development of path-breaking scholarship, and reaches a broad audience through programs and publications. Outreach programs are an important part of education initiatives at the Autry. Autry museum educators work hand-in-hand with teachers and students in local schools, bringing them together with museum professionals to learn about history through engaging activities related to the museum’s extensive collection of 500,000 pieces of art and artifacts.
