AMA Venezia

Venice | Italy

Prestigious collector’s contemporary vision

Established in 2025 by the Belgian art collector and philanthropist Laurent Asscher, AMA Venezia presents his art collection across more than 1,000 square meters of exhibition space. Named for the initials of Asscher’s three children and the Italian word for “he loves,” AMA is a dynamic platform for contemporary art. Located in a historic 16th-century building near the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Cannaregio — once a soap factory — the space was transformed by Alberto Torsello of TA Torsello Architettura into a state-of-the-art venue that honors the building’s raw, industrial character. AMA promotes discovery and artistic dialogue, housing Asscher’s highly personal collection of primarily American contemporary art, spanning blue-chip masters including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Richard Serra, David Hammons and Cy Twombly, alongside more recent generations such as Refik Anadol, Jordan Wolfson, Elizabeth Peyton, Florian Krewer, Jenny Saville, Christopher Wool and more. The gallery mounts temporary exhibitions including solo presentations and group shows, plus site-specific projects that invite artists to experiment with the space.
