S otheby’s is honored to present a superlative collection of works by Thomas Molesworth from the original Romer Ranch in Montana’s Mission Mountains. Commissioned directly from the artist in circa 1940 by Katherine Romer of New York City and Palm Springs, the western Montana ranch was an idyllic retreat for Romer and her glamorous social circle. The collection, which has remained almost completely intact at the Ranch since the period, exemplifies Molesworth’s iconic Western aesthetic with many lots featuring his signature routed and painted wood decorations, dramatic burled fir structures, and vibrant leathers, as well as many extremely rare and unique designs by Molesworth. Highlights include an elaborate “Buffalo Hunt” Chandelier, a one-of-a-kind Bar Cabinet, an impressive burled fir Console Table, and a whimsical Blanket Chest. The presentation of the collection offers collectors an excellent opportunity to acquire outstanding works by the artist with impeccable provenance.
