On the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Sotheby's Diamonds is pleased to welcome Tatiana Verstraeten back to Bond Street.
The youngest designer to be based in Place Vendôme, Belgian-born Verstraeten began her career in Paris working for Maison Michel and Anthony Vaccarello. In a pivotal moment, she was personally enlisted by the late Karl Lagerfeld to design accessories for Chanel. Under his watchful eye, Tatiana began creating jewellery. A profound mentor, Lagerfeld would set Tatiana’s standard for rigour and elegance that she continues to bring to her work today.
On this rare occasion, we invite you behind-the-scenes to see the artist's process first-hand. Preparatory sketches will be on view alongside the original wax of one Tatiana Verstraeten's Exceptional Pieces, allowing the viewer to trace the journey from imagination to realisation like never before.
In January 2019, Tatiana Verstraeten launched her own eponymous high jewelry collection at 24 Place Vendôme in Paris during the Haute Couture season. British Vogue revealed the very first piece of her collection, the remarkable Diamond Rain Fringe Earrings. The Fringe Earring has since become her signature: a cascading waterfall of diamonds and gold thread akin to a meteor shower, effortlessly elegant in appearance but highly technical in form.
Verstraeten won industry-wide recognition with an invitation to be shown at GemGenève International Gem and Jewellery Fair in May 2019, her work championed by leading tastemakers and historians alike.
Most recently, Verstraeten's designs were worn by actress Lily James at the 2022 Met Gala and Emma Watson at this year's BAFTA's.
